Amber Heard donates $7 million settlement to charity

Amber Heard’s divorce ordeal might have been painful for Johnny Depp and Amber but it was the complete opposite for two charity organizations that will receive the settlement money. The two organizations that she is sending the donations to are the American Civil Liberties Union, to aid in the movement to stop violence against women, and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

In the statement she said, “As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves,”

Amber filed for divorce from 53-year-old actor Johnny Depp, under allegations of physical and verbal abuse against her during the four years of their relationship. The relationship came to a definite end on March 2015, when Depp allegedly cut off his fingertip during a fight with Heard where he accused her of having an affair with Billy Bob Thornton, accusations that were denied by the 61-year-old actor.

The divorce was settled on August 16th and the money from the settlement will be split equally by both organizations.

“As reported in the media, the amount received in the divorce was $7 million, and $7 million is being donated,” she went on. “This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future.”

“I know these organizations will put the funds to good use and look forward to continuing to support them in the future,” the 30-year-old actress said. “Hopefully this experience results in a positive change in the lives of people who need it the most.”
